Today has been a long, long day but definitely a rewarding one. We drove four hours one way to pick up Mellow, my new Livestock Guardian Dog. Mellow is an unregistered Great Pyrenees female, and comes from Clear Creek Farm (http://www.motesclearcreekfarms.com) in Middle Tennessee near Lawrenceburg. Pat and Ken Motes were extremely nice, offered advice for us on how to train her, get her to bond with the goats, and etc. I am so glad they allowed me to purchase Mellow. This is the first LGD for me, my family, and my goats so this will be a learning expierence.
Mellow has been with Boer goats up until now, so I'm hoping she'll do well with my Nigerians. I have to say, after being used to the Nigies Boer goats looked HUGE! It's been a while since I've been around a standard goat breed, so it was interesting seeing how much larger a Boer is than a Nigie. Even the young ones were bigger than my little dwarf goats!
For tonight Mellow is in a pen next to the goats. We didn't get home until late, and I didn't want to introduce them without me being able to watch for a while. None of my Nigies have been with an LGD, so I'm hoping they will take to her well.
This is Mellow, pre-bath. I will try to get better pictures tomorrow.

Also, an exciting update about those goats I hinted at last blog. We're going to see them tomorrow! They have some awesome pedigrees, and from their pictures, they look like some great goats. So tomorrow after I check them out, if all goes well (and I'm sure it will) I'll be putting down a deposit on new does.
Well, I'm off to eat a late supper and go to bed. Tomorrow will be yet another busy day. God bless!
